And now September's issue! Enjoy!

Here with Inspirations we would like to give something to everyone. We want it to be a work of the readers, so remember to keep an open mind and jump in with your own submissions to Inspirations.

It is important to remember that in order to live a good and just life, we should try to treat others as we would like to be treated. The golden rule applies in all faiths, religions and walks of life.

although we do not have to believe what others say, we might try, at least, to listen and take into consideration that others' beliefs are valid to them. Who knows, we may even learn something of value to ourselves!

I ask that you keep an open mind, as many of the Inspirations featured here in our publication may not resonate with you right away nor ever. Please tune in each and every month and you may find someone to inspire you to greatness! The blind community contains all sorts of people, beliefs, and religions and we can all come together to inspire each other.

I as the editor of Inspirations will never present only one viewpoint or religious denomination. I only wish to remain neutral and present to you the stories of people who have inspired others.

Take some time and find an inspiration , today!

Then share who you’ve found with the rest of our readers.

Visit our Blind Inspirations page at: Blind Inspirations of EverythingBlind www.everythingblind.com/personal-growth.html

And go on your own personal journey to find your gifts and strengths. There are many inspirational people and teachers introduced and you should be able to find something that resonates with you.

What You Can Expect

Each month we will share with you stories, and information on the individuals that have set their sights on inspiring!

the people just like us, who have lost their physical sight, but, not their vision. that keep us going and growing as not only blind and visually impaired individuals, but also as able and active individuals.

Please send information on these individuals that you know of, so we can share them here or tell us about yourself and why you are such an inspiration!

FEATURED INSPIRATIONS

Sometimes an inspirational person does not even realize how inspirational they are to others. They go about their lives doing the things that they enjoy, helping others the best way they know how and remaining content without ever knowing they really are amazing.

Such a person is Donna W. Hill and you first met Donna in July's issue of Inspirations when you read an article titled, Future Reflections: Raising Successful Blind Children June 14, 2010 at Suite 101: Suite 101: http://blind-students.suite101.com/article.cfm/future-reflections-raising-successful-blind-children

In my own research on Donna, I found her to be quite a special person and I thought it would be inspirational to tell you a little more about her

Following is her profile found on FaceBook and you can also connect with her through the following links:

Donna W. Hill (60) is an advocate, author, singer/songwriter, recording artist, speaker and avid knitter in rural Pennsylvania. Now finishing up her first fantasy novel, she also writes for the online magazines American Chronicle: at: American Chronicle: http://www.americanchronicle.com/authors/view/3885

And Suite 101 at: Suite 101: http://www.suite101.com/profile.cfm/donna_hill

Donna, who has written on many topics including folk music, wildlife, health-care and osteoporosis, is a passionate advocate for Braille literacy, a crisis in the US which impacts the employability of blind people and leads to tax-payer support of intelligent blind people who want to work. Only 10% of America's blind kids (down from 50% in the 1960s) are taught to read and write Braille, which is the only tool offering true literacy on a par with print. Over seventy percent of otherwise able-bodied, working-age blind Americans are unemployed. Of those who have jobs, ninety percent are Braille readers.

Donna works to foster understanding of and improve opportunities for blind Americans, as a volunteer publicist for two nonprofits: the National Federation of the Blind of Pennsylvania (NFB, PA)and the Performing Arts Division of the National Federation of the Blind at:  http://www.padnfb.org

Born blind from Retinitis Pigmentosa, Donna was one of the first blind students mainstreamed in public schools in the fifties. She has first-hand experience with the failures of America's special education system. Though legally blind at birth and having a degenerative eye disease which leads to total blindness, she was never offered Braille or a white cane. She taught herself Braille after graduating from college. Donna has a black Lab guide dog named Hunter. He is her forth guide from the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind in Smithtown, NY. She works to improve public understanding of these remarkable dogs and to publicize the access issues that still exist.

She began her music career as a street performer in Philadelphia's Suburban Station, a center city railroad hub. Her work has been honored by the National Park Service, the US Submarine Veterans of WWII, the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, the Pennsylvania legislature and others. Public, private, Quaker, Catholic and Christian educators have all recommended her school assembly programs, which are tailored for the elementary through secondary years. She has written a collection of age-appropriate songs about American history and motivational issues. Her programs encourage students to reach beyond their circumstances and not give up on themselves or their goals.

Donna is also a nineteen-year cancer survivor. She had breast cancer twice and both times found the tumors herself, despite negative mammograms. She promotes self-exam.

Donna and her husband Rich live on seventeen acres in rural Susquehanna County in Northeast Pennsylvania. She enjoys long walks with Hunter, travel, and the great variety of birds, frogs and wild flowers which thrive around their pond and meadows. She knits fancy lap warmers which she gives away to the elderly through her local interfaith ministries. She writes Haiku and occasional short fiction. A Harry Potter fan, she has published several editorials on the series with the fan site Mugglenet.com:

So, just wanted to say thanks to Donna, for her special inspiration and to tell everyone, maybe you don’t think you’re special, but yes, just believe in yourself and you'll find that you too can do anything, if you set your mind to it.

Until next month, everyone, stay inspired!

Blind Recording Artists Sought for Multi-Genre Compilation

Help Support Scholarships for Blind Performers

New York City, NY (August 4, 2010): Dennis H.R. Sumlin, President of the Performing Arts Division of the National Federation of the Blind (PAD, NFB): www.padnfb.org has announced that the volunteer-run nonprofit is now taking submissions for "Sound in Sight Volume 2." A follow-up to the organization's popular "Sound in Sight Volume 1," The new multi-genre compilation will feature recordings by the nation's finest blind and visually impaired recording artists.

Artists selected for inclusion will receive 5 copies of the CD and have the distinction of helping PAD's innovative programs for blind performers. PAD awarded its first $1,000 Mary Anne Parks Performing Arts Scholarship in July to Ignasi Cambra, a blind pianist who is a senior majoring in performance at the University of Indiana (Bloomington) Jacobs School of Music.

Submissions for "Sound in Sight Volume 2" will be taken until January 1, 2011. There is no charge. To submit to this project, recording artists must be blind or visually impaired. Tracks must be of a professional quality and ready for album placement. WAV files are preferred, but high-quality MP3's will be considered. Since "Sound in Sight" is a project meant to raise money, the division cannot pay for studio time.

"We strongly encourage submissions of original tracks," Sumlin states, "and we ask that if possible, the tracks be 5 minutes or less in length. Artists who contributed to Volume 1 are welcomed to submit tracks to this project as well."

The address to send in your submissions is:

Brooke Fox

PO Box 4203 New York, NY 10163

To upload your music directly, please visit

Looking for affordable women's manual wind Braille watch. Modern quartz battery powered watches do not work for me though talking watches do. But the mechanical wind or automatic self-winding have worked for me for years, from childhood to, um, middle age. If anyone knows where I can find one at a price below $100, please send the information to this publication. Thank you.

We have put together a site where all VIPs their friends, family, and anyone else that wants to find something pertaining to vision or vision loss, can come to interact and learn.
